Great detailed description of the many elements of prayer
Completing the
Salat:
Instructions: If the required number of
Rakats is but two, the Salat would proceed to the next recitation. Otherwise, one or two more Rakats are due. These are done exactly as the first two, except that no recitations occur after that of the Surah Fatiah.
It is also necessary to know that the
recitations of the first two Rakats are done aloud during the Salat of
Fajr and Maghrib and Isha. At other times, all are recited silently.
Recitation:
At-tahiyyatu Lillahi was-Salawatu wat-Tayyibutu As-salaamu 'alayka ayyuhan-Nabbiyyu Wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Was-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-Saliheen
As-shadu an la ilaha il Allah Wa
as-shadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa Rassoulu.
When the proper number of two, three or four Rakats are completed, another final prayer is
said silently, praising and offering greetings and blessing upons the Prophets
and their families.
Allahumma salli 'ala Sayyidina
Muhammadin wa 'ala ali Muhammadin Kama Sallayta 'ala Ibrahima wa 'ala ali
Ibrahima
Innaka Hamidun majid. Allahumma barik 'ala Muhammadin wa
'ala ali Muhammadin Kama Barkata 'ala Ibrahima wa 'ala ali Ibrahima
Innaka Hamidun Majid.
Translation: O
Allah, bless our master Muhammad and the family of Muhammad As you have
blessed Abraham and the family of Abraham Surely You are the
Praiseworthy, the Glorious. O Allah, be gracious unto Muhammad and unto
the family of Muhammad As You were gracious unto Abraham and unto the family of
Abraham. Surely you are the Praiseworthy, the
Glorious.
Finishing this recitation, the head is
hung low, then turned slowly to full extension to the right, so that the
eyes can glance back over the shoulder, and one
recites:
As-salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah
And turning the head then to the left, the
phrase is repeated:
As-salaam alaikum wa
rahmatullah.
(Translation: Peace and
Blessings of Allah be upon you).
These last statements are
addressed to the two Recording Angels, each of whom sits poised over the
shoulder, recording respectively the good and wrongful actions. Subhan
allah!
