Asalamalikum, This week we began with reading surah Yaseen for Baida's late father. We did this in the Iraqi style with everyone taking a turn at reading. Baida read some dua and we all recited surah Al Fatiha for him- May God have mercy on him. Thank God for Khalha Fouzia who all gathered us for the Dohr prayer which we did with all the kids also. Next I talked a bit about the importance of keeping our sisterhood strong and the importance of always watching the words that come out of our mouths and making sure we only say about others what they would like to hear about themselves. I was very happy with the next segment of our meeting which was the children s turn to shine as they recited their surahs for Khala Fouzia. It was beautiful to watch all of them sitting so humbly and seriously awaiting their turn to recite what they had practiced that week. Even the small ones tried and were very proud to do so. Baida made all the kids beautiful candy leahs and Khala Fouzia presented each to them and laid it around their necks as we clapped. We ate some wonderful food and then the adults went around the circle to recite. One Indonesian lady shared a story of how her mother would wake her up for fajr prayer with a bit of water in her face or a light pinch and what she does now to wake up her own daughter. Khala Fozia told reminded us of the importance of instilling prayer in our children at a young age as it will make them a lot more likely in the future to keep with the five prayers.
