Asalamalikum,
This last meeting was fantastic thank you for all you contributed. I will give a brief overlay of what we discussed and planned. We talked about the importance of not judging our "outer enemies" but to concentrate on the inner enemy which is ourselves. We reverenced the lecture that you can find on YouTube under Islamic Inspiration for the self. Basically trying to work on the self rather than finding faults in others. Some of the common examples we talked about and want to avoid include: thinking only Arabic people can teach Quran, gathering at the Mosque in clicks, comparing and judging other Muslims for their dress that might be different than yours, their way of life etc. We talked about possibly setting up weekly classes for learning Arabic and Quran for children. We talked about the perfection of God's name Allah. We planned to meet at the Elm Street Mosque on this coming Wednesday at 9 am to do some cleaning. We went around our circle and talked about our weekly goals for improving the self and soul and religious weekly goals like waking for fajr prayer and learning new surahs. Some of us stayed at the end and one of the wise woman did tajwid with some of the children. Some of the kids seemed disinterested at first but after told me that when the sister recited the Quran it was the most beautiful she had heard and wished she could hear it always. Thank you for the inspiration all of you.
